Who should sell on Yarnzee?

People who are ready to destash and want to share yarn and resources with the fiber community. This space is all about community and sustainability. If you're looking for top dollar and immediate cash for your stash, this is likely not the right fit for you.

Why does Yarnzee exist?

Yarnzee was created because I was tired of platforms like Etsy, eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, and Facebook Marketplace being the main options for yarn resale. We deserve our own platform.

What are the benefits of selling on Yarnzee?

You get to buy and sell directly with other fiber lovers who are genuinely excited for their yarn mail to arrive. Yarnzee provides a safe, consistent, and secure experience for buyers and sellers by handling payments through Stripe, offering an in-platform chat function, and providing seller reviews so buyers know exactly who they're purchasing from.

What can I sell on Yarnzee?

The main thing people buy and sell on Yarnzee is yarn, but we've expanded to include spinning fibers, hooks and needles, books, and other notions. Someone even sold a knitting machine on Yarnzee this year, which was very cool. There are no e-book or digital sales allowed at this time.

How do I post a listing?

First, you must have an active Stripe account connected through Yarnzee. Your listings will remain in draft until your Stripe account is set up, so Yarnzee can guarantee payment to you. Once Stripe is set up, you'll be guided through four pages:

1. Listing Details (category, title, description, weight, color, fiber type)
2. Item Price
3. Shipping Price
4. Photos (upload one at a time)

Hit upload and voila, your listing is live!

How do I price my items?

You get to choose, but the minimum listing price is $10. I recommend pricing at least 25-30% off retail. High-quality natural fibers typically sell well at around 25% off. If you have lower price point yarn, unlabeled yarn, random bundles, or just want to move things quickly, the better the deal the faster it will sell. I personally sell my own stash at around 40-50% off because I want to find it a new home with someone who's really, really pumped to try new yarn. Any tips for bundling?

Every listing is unique, but I'd recommend bundling items if you have multiple skeins of the same yarn, or grouping similar skeins together. Bundles are currently 4x more likely to sell on Yarnzee than a single skein.

Any recommendations for photos?

High quality photos are what make your listing shine. Natural light is best, but avoid direct sunlight. A spot near a window during the daytime usually works well. A plain, non-distracting background like a kitchen counter or simple table is ideal. Three strong photos are usually enough:

• All the yarn together (if selling 8 skeins, show all 8)
• A photo that accurately represents the color
• A close-up of the tags and specs
• Additional photos are especially helpful for variegated or multicolor yarns

How does shipping work?

On Yarnzee, you're responsible for deciding your shipping rate, purchasing your own label, and shipping the item. I highly recommend Pirate Ship, a free service that offers deep discounts on shipping labels through USPS and UPS.

Who decides the shipping price?

You do. I generally recommend $5-10 for shipping, or more for larger bundles. You can always explore pirate ship for shipping estimates.

How do I know when something sells?

You'll receive an email from Yarnzee when a listing is sold. Your Yarnzee account will display the buyer's shipping address. Once you ship the item, mark it as shipped in your account and send the buyer their tracking number through the platform's chat.

Can buyers bundle multple listings from one seller?

Not automatically at this time, but buyers have successfully messaged sellers to ask for bundled discounts and have had good results. This feature will be added in the future, though it requires a more complex platform update. Thanks for your patience!

How do reviews work?

After a buyer receives their yarn, both parties have the opportunity to rate the transaction on a 1-5 star scale. Reviews help build trust and rapport for sellers. Currently, every single review on Yarnzee is 5 stars. Fiber lovers tend to be considerate, kind, and honest people, so that doesn't surprise me at all.
